Frequently Asked Questions
What is the beginning class?
In the beginning class you learn the 108 movements of the Taoist Tai
ChiTM taijiquan set well enough to do it with
a group. There are no tests or competitions. Once you learn the
basic moves and angles, you are ready for the continuing class.
How long does it take to learn the set?
The beginning class is three months. Because many of the moves repeat
several times during the set, three months provides ample time to learn
the entire set well enough to practice in a group.
What happens after the beginning
class?
After learning the set, each beginning class celebrates with a welcome
dinner with the continuing students. You join the continuing class to
learn the moves in greater depth, and learn the foundation exercises
that help to build strength and flexibility. You may attend workshops
held here, throughout the country, and abroad. The dues for the
continuing class are the same as for the beginning class, and you can
attend any and all classes offered.
What is a typical class like?
Classes usually begin with practicing the set up to what you have
learned so far. The instructor reviews the moves you learned in the
last class and you will learn new moves. Finally, the class ends with
practicing the set up through the new moves you learned.
